冬蟲夏草在中國的使用始於2千多年前的西藏醫學中，而根據清乾隆年間《本草從新》一書記載，冬蟲夏草「冬在土中，身活如老蠶，有毛能動，至夏則毛出土上，連身俱化為草」，一語道出冬蟲夏草的組成，它原是由蟲草菌寄生在蝙蝠蛾的幼蟲中，經過幾年的蛻變，蟲草菌也在蟲體內形成菌絲體，直到菌絲體沾滿了蟲體全身，蟲體這時可算「成仁取義」，死於泥土之中。到了隔年的四、五、六月間，由蟲體的口中長出蟲草菌的子實體座，就成了我們所見之「草」。 許氏冬蟲夏草菌體粉是取自青海、西藏一帶新鮮蟲體（未烘乾），經高顯微技術分離取得蟲草菌，再經由生物科技液態培養技術，取得無污染純天然之純菌絲體，經分離、烘乾、殺菌、研磨，所得之為高品質冬蟲夏草菌體粉。
