Preparing Dried Sea Cucumbers
1. Initial Rinse and Soak
Rinse the dried sea cucumbers thoroughly. Place them in a clean container with plenty of water and refrigerate for 12 hours.
2. First Cooking Step
Remove the sea cucumbers from the water and drain them. Place them in a pot with fresh water, bring to a boil over low heat, and then turn off the heat immediately. Allow them to cool completely while still in the pot with the water.
3. Cleaning Process
Cut the sea cucumbers open and remove the internal organs and any impurities.
4. Second Cooking Step
Place the cleaned sea cucumbers in a container with water and refrigerate for 12 hours. Repeat the boiling process from step 2. If the sea cucumbers are still firm, repeat this step again until they soften.
5. Final Rehydration
After boiling, fully submerge the sea cucumbers in fresh water and refrigerate for 48 hours. Change the water every 12 hours to ensure proper hydration and expansion.
6. Storage Instructions
Divide the fully rehydrated sea cucumbers into resealable bags. Add half a cup of water to each bag and freeze. When ready to use, thaw the sea cucumbers in water while still in the bag. Theyโll then be ready for cooking.
Store in a cool, ventilated, and dry place, away from direct sunlight.
